AU History: Instead of telling Peter no, Stiles has a moment of weakness, and tells him yes. While the end of season 1 plays out mostly according to the show. Jackson doesn’t get bit. Derek isn’t home at the time, instead seeking out Stiles. The boy may not have mentioned a certain thing he did, but Derek noticed it.

Soon after the events in the last episode, both Derek and Scott confront Stiles about what happened. While Derek seems disturbed that Peter chose to bite Stiles on the wrist instead of some other part of the body (side or shoulder), and that Peter of all people offered the bite, he doesn’t offer an explanation on why it bothers him. This isn’t because Derek is hiding information, he simply doesn’t know--there is a great deal of information that wasn’t provided to him before his family died.

On the full moon, Stiles, who thought he would have all the control in the world, that he had an anchor (it was Scott, right? Or Lydia, or his Father--he had a lot of anchors), lost complete control. Every anchor he grabbed at, he felt wasn’t right--Scott had Allison. Lydia? He wasn’t so much in love with her, but the idea of her. And his Father? Well what right did he even have to be clinging to that idea, when he’d disappointed his father at every turn. So instead of finding an anchor, Stiles lost complete control--every insecurity, every worry amplified itself, fueled his rage.

He broke free of the restraints placed on him, and started to run--seeking blood. Scott found him first, and for what Stiles lacked in strength, he had in speed. He nearly killed the Beta (who wouldn’t completely fight back)--and might have done more, had Derek not shown up to restrain him, and with Allison’s help, take him down.

When he returned to his senses, he realizes that he should have said no to Peter for a reason--someone like him? Should never have power like that--someone who can’t control it.

So despite knowing how much it might hurt his father, or Scott, Stiles does the only thing he can think of, to protect those around him--he runs. Becoming an Omega? A werewolf without a pack? The Lone wolf? Was worth doing to make sure he wouldn’t hurt anyone, or prove to be even more of a failure than he already was. Stiles kind of sucked at doing most things--so of course he would suck at being a werewolf.

As the years pass (two to be exact), Stiles begins to gain control of his powers. He gets a better understanding of himself. It is lonely, and it sucks, and he can’t say that his old insecurities don’t plague him...but with no one to rely on but himself...it put things into perspective for him. He’s become stronger, more confident in his own decisions.

Partway through his first year away, he headed into Canada, and ran into a wild pack in the wilderness. They took him in, helped him gain control of himself. To focus his frustrations, his fears, his anger into something productive. The wildness wasn’t something they could change--it came from being an Omega, and from whatever Peter had done to him. He would always be slightly feral, vicious, cutting. The pack he was with provided support; taught him lore. They were descended from some of the older Native American tribes, the ones who had taken the bite and broken away from their human breatherin. Their lore was different from what little Stiles knew, but he absorbed it all, learned what he could--taking it all in his typical veracious fashion. He had stayed for six months, even forming one of those amazing “friends with benefits” relationships with one of the guys in the pack (hey, apparently he was bisexual!), but it never felt right. At the end of the six months, he had asked if he could stay. He felt welcomed, here. Important. Part of something...but the Alpha had told him no. That he belonged to another pack, and despite what Stiles thought, he hadn’t fully broken ties. He needed to go back, if he ever wanted to go forward.

After he left the Canadian pack, he kept traveling, never staying in one place too long, this time. He was a true Omega now, never wanting to acknowledge what the other pack had said, about home. He keeps writing his dad letters, letting him know he’s fine, that he’ll return when he can. He just isn’t quite sure when that will be. Or if when he gets back, if the others will even want him back.

And that is the biggest thing that keeps him away. The fear that even with how he’s changed...no one will want him, still. That after being an Omega choice, he’ll be forced stay one, because the Beacon Hills pack won’t want him as a Beta--as one of them..

Canon Personality:

Stiles Stilinksi, while considered the ‘sidekick’ to Scott’s main character, is as much a force to be reckoned with (or even more) than his best friend. As a teenager in highschool, Stiles is unpopular. Despite being on the Lacross team, he doesn’t seem to have any friends besides Scott--someone he relies on heavily. While not explicitly said, it would not be surprising to find out that Stiles joined Lacross so that he could be close to Scott--he supports his friend completely, and sees him as his partner in crime in situations.

Even when Scott starts having his little ‘werewolf’ problem, Stiles stay steadfastly loyal--there is no abandonment, no judgement. He gets scared, yes, and occasionally freaks out like spaz, but he never once leaves his friend in a lurch. Instead, he learns everything he can about the situation, and more than once puts himself into deadly situations to help him.

Stiles is the brains of the situation--even as things start getting more complicated, as more werewolves start showing up, he keeps his head on straight, and acts as the researcher. He’s incredibly intelligent, and despite his ADHD, can focus on a situation and find a solution quickly (while not from the canon point I’m diverging from, he pinpointed Matt as the master of the Kanima before anyone else did). Even Derek, who doesn’t trust him, who doesn’t see him as much more as a kid most of the time, relies on him to gain information that they need to survive. Whether its’ manipulating Derek to take his shirt off repeatedly in front of a gay man to get said gay man to provide them technical help, or getting his father drunk to gain more information on a case, Stiles uses his cunning and creative brain to find solutions to dire problems.

Stiles shows bravery (or stupidity), in a great many situations. Repeatedly he throws himself in the fray to try and protect those he cares about (Allison, his father, Scott), and those he barely considers friends (going up against a homocidal Argent to keep Isaac from being killed, trying to save Derek).

This isn’t to say he isn’t without flaws. Stiles *severly* lacks a filter on his mouth, and it gets him in trouble. He considers sarcasm to be his only defense--and while he originally said it as a gest--it is something he feels deep down. Underneath the humor, the light attitude, Stiles is someone who lacks self esteem in himself, and worries that he will always be second best (or worse) to all of those around him. As someone who has always been completely under the radar, with one sole friend, the sudden appearance of super-special werewolves (and Scott’s inclusion in the group), and his best friend gaining a girlfriend, he starts to feel well and truly alone.

Stiles tries to protect everyone around him, to take care of everyone around him--he hides his own feelings away so that no one can see that he is quietly falling apart.

AU CHANGES TO PERSONALITY

Due to the changes in Stiles, he’s more confident in himself. While still snarky, there is an underlying bitterness there, now. He’s also more willing to be completely honest about how a situation might make him feel, instead of hiding it away. He knows that hiding things away had caused a great deal of the problems in his life, the envy, feelings of no self worth. He’s trying to admend those situations in him--he isn’t 100% successful all the time, but he is getting much better at it.

That leads to his interactions with people. While still occasionally rambling when he’s nervous, he tends to flail less, and be a lot more controlled with his movements. Additionally, with age and transformation comes maturity--while he can still be light hearted and silly, and is still very much willing to provide random information to people, it isn’t as frequent as it once was.

There is a violence to him now, a viciousness that never was there before. When faced with a dangerous situation, the wolf takes over, and he is more willing to throw himself hard into situations, especially if it’s in regard to protecting someone. He fights as if his own life doesn’t matter--holding nothing back. Some consider it ‘feral’, but Stiles himself sees it just as a differen’t kind of power, like that of someone who has nothing to lose.

Due to being a werewolf now, his ADHD doesn’t effect him anymore, so he is more focused, honed in on things. He still questions himself, still worries from time to time--but he’s beginning to realize that that won’t help him, or anyone around him. He needs to swallow it down and focus--push forward. Always forward.

Basically, he is still Stiles, but a Stiles that has been burned, and has learned from that.
